Organic Chemical Fertilizer

For many years the Chinese have boosted the production of food crops by applying large quantities of NPK (nitrogen, phosphate, potassium) fertilizers to the dwindling amount of arable land. The legacy of this overuse of fertilizer is damaged, less productive soil, higher rates of erosion, and ground and surface water contamination. The Chinese agriculture community, led by the insight of their top agronomists and academicians, now understands this legacy and is seeking long-term remedies.

Although chemical fertilizers are still needed, chemicals alone are not enough. In addition to providing the necessary nutrients, future land applications must also address sustaining positive soil qualities such as permeability and the capacity to hold moisture. The natural process for sustaining soil involves the buildup and decay of organic matter over time. Unfortunately, the Chinese have overproduced their arable land for so long that the residual organic content is negligible. We will provide a solution to this problem by manufacturing compost derived from organic wastes and blended with chemical fertilizers: our organic chemical fertilizer (OCF).

Our vision to produce high-quality compost from organic wastes such as biosolids and crop-residuals starts with the composting process. After thorough investigation of the worldwide state of composting technology, BSAR selected a highly efficient process that was first developed in the 1950's. Construction of the composting facility in China will be its fifth generation, having previously been improved by both Lockheed and Westinghouse. The proprietary in-vessel process will produce high quality compost in a short time frame, with a small footprint, while being very energy efficient.

After production, the high-quality compost will be blended with lesser amounts of chemical fertilizers. To aid in the development and formulation of our OCF product, BSAR retained a pre-eminent member of the Chinese agri-science community, Mr. Li Guoxue, Professor of Ecology, Environmental and Soil Sciences, China Agricultural University, Beijing. Professor Li has studied the synergistic effect of compost and chemical fertilizers on crop production and soil quality for more than a decade. Professor Li is a fervent advocate for the widespread use of OCF.

We believe that our OCF product will help to improve the environmental quality of land and freshwater resources in China through:

  • Reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers to sustain crop production
  • Restoration of organic matter to depleted soils
  • Reduced erosion
  • Reduced chemical contamination of surface and groundwater resources
  • Improved soil permeability, water holding capacity and other desirable characteristics
  • Improved treatment of biosolids prior to land application
